ALZip

EstSoft www.altools.com is a Korean company that makes a file compression and archiving utility apparently more powerful than WinZip. Plus it is free. That explains the popularity of ALZip's native file format, alz, in Korea.

ALZ files cannot be unzipped with WinZip, but ZIP files can be unzipped with ALZip. So you are better off with ALZip.

Additional Notes

  • The Korean language versions of HWP Viewer and ALZip do not work very well with a US operating system. Using the English language versions is highly recommended.
  • The English language version of ALZip have been so purified of any Asian character remnants that it may not recognize Hangeul filenames. You might have to first rename those files using Roman characters.
